About the USS Ascension

The USS Ascension is a chapter of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek Fan Association Inc. Our goal is to make new friends, share our interest in science fiction, attend fun activities, and have a good time doing it.

Our History in the Valley

The USS Ascension was commissioned on November 11th, 1990 as a chapter of STARFLEET. Since that time we have done many special things.

We have hosted three conventions at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville over the years with guests: George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan, Tony Todd, Walter Koenig, John DeLance, and Marc Okrand.

Besides putting on conventions in our area, we have also visited other conventions near & far from the Lehigh Valley. We are easily recognized by our blue satin jackets. We have met many actors and some of us have become good friends with many of them, especially Lehigh Valley’s own Jonathan Frakes (Riker in TNG).

The crew of the Ascension is known for our annual picnics held at Beltzville State Park in Lehighton PA. Good food, great fun and a great location always make for a memorable time. Check out our History page for more details about past events and milestones.

Our Monthly Meetings

We usually meet on the first Saturday of every month at the Carmike Theatre in Allentown PA. There are exceptions so please visit our Home page or Events page to confirm the time and date of the next meeting.

At our monthly meetings we discuss upcoming events and activities, conventions, Trek & Sci-Fi news, local area events and other topics. Visitors are always welcome. If you'd like to have a day of fun with people who enjoy Star Trek and science fiction, please drop in!!!

Ascension Activities

We host and attend frequent social activities such as: conventions, dinner outings, movie outings, picnics, model building, holiday parties, hobby shows, shore trips, museums trips, tubing (water & snow), aquarium visits, amusement parks trips, community service activities, and other seasonal events. All our events are family-friendly so feel free to bring your children along.

We also enjoy attending events hosted by other area STARFLEET chapters. The USS Ascension is but one chapter in STARFLEET's Region 7, an area covering: PA, NY, NJ, DE, MD, and DC. This is another way of meeting new people and participating in different activities.

Helping the Community

The USS Ascension does have its serious side also. We support the local charitable organization known as DREAM COME TRUE. This organization works with terminally ill children. It tries to grant their wish and give a positive today.

The USS Ascension has also donated funds for cancer research to St Luke’s Hospital in the name of Jonathan Frakes’ family.

Every spring, Lehigh Carbon Community College has its annual CommunityFest event. The USS Ascension participates in this event to help raise money for our charity donations.

Our donations & contributions are not limited to just these fine organizations. We try to help out the community any way we can.

Through our membership on the Ascension we have come to meet many people over the years, some of which have become our closest friends. So when we say that joining the Ascension is where your journey really begins, that’s what we are talking about.
